My name is Devin Jarrod Ford. I am student at Morehouse College, majoring in English with plans of attending Graduate School to study Law. I am originally from Memphis, TN. and the eldest of two. I come from a generally large family; most residing in Tennessee while others are in various states and countries. I am made up of African American, Italian and Puerto Rican origins.
At the age of 13, along with my cousin, I researched my heritage to find that my great-grandfather (on my mother's side) an African- American, briefly lived in Italy where he met and later married my great-grandmother, an Italian. They then relocated to the East Coast conceiving my grandfather and his siblings. As an adult my grandfather was a railroad engineer which allowed him to travel as well. In his early 20s he settled in Memphis, TN with my grandmother and continued developing the generation that led to the birth of me. Growing up i closely identified and related to my mother's ancestry. At the age of 16 I met my father for the first time and was able to put all the pieces of my heritage together, now embracing both my African American and Puerto Rican roots. I would consider myself to be the product of strong, positive and influential upbringing. The quote "It takes a village to raise a child" is certainly the story of my life. As a child, I whiteness relatives setting and accomplishing goals of all different calibers and the family standing in full support with them seeing it unfold. While no family is perfect, mine defiantly made sure that love and support was prevalent at all times.
Upon graduation from Morehouse College, I plan on attending New York University where I will study law. My overall going is the practice law in the Entertainment Industry and be that go-to lawyer of the stars; reigning from music, fashion, sports and the arts. I have a supreme interest in the Entertainment industry; while our generation is keen on social media and reality shows, we are always looking for the next big thing - no matter who he or she may be. I also plan on opening my own legal firm in New York City later in my career. I want to be the type of career perfessional that young children coming up behind me can relate to and not just idolize. I would love for them to see my journey, trials and tribulations but most of all my triumph and say "If Devin Ford can make it to the top, so can I". In the mist of my success I would love to expand myself beyond my craft and really advocate philanthropic work across the world. Following one of the Morehouse teachings, being "Well Traveled".
Overall I would consider myself a very down to earth and relatable person. I tend to get along with everyone and love to bring a light and humor sense to any group setting. Nevertheless, I am really stern when it comes to handling business and getting things done; there is a time and place for everything. I am a real music fanatic, my iTunes player consists of various artists and genres. I believe music is therapeutic and no matter what situation you are involved in, there is a song to help. I also have a keen sense of style, dressing well is always important. I would say, when you dress your best you perform the best. Style exudes confidence that you may have never known existed within yourself.
I have dreams that are as long as the Great Wall of China, and I know with hard work and dedication I will bring all of them into fruition.
